 ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES OF NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HOMOEOPATHY

          The Institute is recognized by the Central Council of Homoeopathy, to conduct B.H.M.S. course in Homoeopathy viz., Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery; and from 1998-99 to conduct MD (Homoeopathy) courses. It was formerly affiliated to the University of Calcutta and from 16th Batch (Session 2004-05) onwards, the Institute is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences, Kolkata.

 

2.1     UNDER GRADUATE COURSE

          (Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

 

          The BHMS course is of 5 ½ years duration (including one year compulsory internship) and was started in December 1987. Students possessing Higher Secondary (10 + 2) or Equivalent qualification with at least five subjects including English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible for admission. Presently the 26th batch is in roll.

 

          For the academic session 2014-15, 93 seats were available for admission to the BHMS Course, out of which 14 (fourteen) seats are allocated amongst the nominees of States/Union Territories (Table below); 05 (five) seats are reserved for students of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical Co-operation (BIMSTEC)countries nominated by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Azad Bhavan, Indraprastha Estate, New Delhi; 01(one) seat is reserved for Foreign National under self-financing scheme and 10 (ten) seats are to be filled up by candidates are sponsored by Govt. of Sri Lanka, these seats will remain vacant; no other candidate will be admitted against these seats.

          The State/UTs will send the nomination of candidates directly to the Director of the Institute within the prescribed date every year. The candidates nominated against the above quota should not be blind (including colour blindness), deaf and/or dumb and should possess at least 50% marks (45% for SC & ST candidates) under the 10+2 science stream with at least five subjects including English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The unutilized seats from the above quota may be filled from the merit list of Admission Test subject to approval of the Ministry.

          The selection for the remaining 63 (Sixty Three) seats will be made on the basis of an All India Written Competitive Test (Admission Test) held a Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Thiruvanthapuram centres.

          The reservation in admission will be provided as applicable under the reservation rule of Government of India.

          This year NIH conducted the entrance examination for BHMS course at Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad and Bhopal Center on 08-06-2014.

 

2.2     POST GRADUATE COURSE

          [M.D. (Homoeopathy)]

 

These MD (Hom) course is available on Six subjects viz. Organon of Medicine, Materia Medica, Repertory, Homoeopathic Pharmacy, Practice of Medicine and Paediatrics. Currently the 16th batch has already been enrolled through All India Entrance Examination conducted by West Bengal University of Health Sciences. The courses are as per the curriculum prescribed by the Central Council of Homoeopathy.

Subject wise distribution of seats in MD (Hom) course

Out of total 36 students, 2 seats are reserved for sponsored candidates of BIMSTEC countries, joining through Indian Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR). Reservations to remaining 34 seats are applicable as per GoI norms. From the Academic Session 2014-2015 Six seats are earmarked for Central Government Nominees.

At present 13th Batch of PGTs have completed their course curriculum and shall be appearing M.D. (Hom.) Part – II Examination. 14th Batch PGTs are preparing their dissertation work. Examination. 15th Batch PGTs preparing to appear M.D. (Homoeopathy) Part – I Annual Examination 2015. 16th Batch PGTS are about to submit their research proposals (synopsis).
